The shy blond boy looked at the girl he did not know. She was new at school and it was obvious she was trying to make friends, but nobody seemed to notice her, just him.
She sat in one of the many chairs, looking frustrated. He thought he saw her eyes fill with tears as she hugged the teddy bear-shaped bag. She sniffled and shook her head.
He knew how it felt to be ignored. The frustration, the urge to cry that he sometimes had. The feeling that no one would care, or worse, that nobody would notice if he disappeared. He knew how it felt.
Maybe that's why he tried to get over his shyness for only an instant to speak to her.
